Tokimonsta – Bright Shadows

Check out Tokimonsta’s newest single, Bright Shadows, from her upcoming EP, Creature Dreams, which is dropping May 17. Bright Shadows is described as “a jazzy number led by a glide-ridden vibrato melody and punctuated by found-sound percussion, modulated ’90s-house stabs, and filtered kicks.”

Musiq – Medicine

In the world of “neo soul” one of the only cats that maintained any form of integrity and longevity is the artist known as Musiq Soulchild. However, these last two albums (Musiq in the Magiqdrops May 3rd) have seen more compromises than I would like. This coming album is the most R&B of all and I must say that although it’s not bad it’s def not what I anticipated from Musiq. I hope, though, that he does well with this release as I can imagine the label is applying the pressure but I wish we could have gotten less conventional musiq this time around

Late Pass #60: Bilal – Soul Sista (Madlib Remix)

As you can probably tell, I’ve been going through my old crates tonight.
Here’s a treat from a rare and hard to find 12″ Madlib put together when he was really putting out a lot of remixes. He completely fonked this one out and adds that trademark Madlib feel to it, all while still keeping it surprisingly sexy. Just a great gem to pop in the deck. Enjoy!

Late Pass #59: Elzhi – Feel This (This Here) feat Dwele

Here’s another one I found while listening to an old mix of mine. This comes from an album I’ve had since 2004 titled only Unreleased Solo Project. This Hereis a cool marriage between the track’s soothing guitar, Elzhi’s subtle flow and Dwele’s crooning. This tune is so dope I dont know how I forgot about it. Don’t forget about Elzhi’s elMatic which is dropping soon (read more HERE) and did you ever hear of The Breakfast Club (Dwele x Ta’Raach x Elzhi)?

Late Pass#58 : Emage – Stop The Pain

Here’s a cool joint from 1994, yep almost 20 years ago. This one-off was produced largely by Tony Toni Tone’s Dwayne Wiggins but also featured production by Showbiz, Dres, Mista Lawnge, and Howie Tee. The album sounds a little dated now but I’ve always loved this Les McCann sample and the way they flipped it. This one is still out there and can be scored for as little as $1.96 HERE
