Rahbi – Sistas & Brothas (Bobbybob Remix)

Like most people, I became a fan of Rahbi’s after seeing him perform live; his energy, stage presence and performance are just larger than life and completely win you over. He’s no gimmick though, the cat can sing and has re-emerged recently with a new video for his latest song Rollercoaster (view here). He recently sent me this 2007 Sistas & Brothas remix from the EP he was sharing then. The brother sounds like Rashaan Patterson on this one, you’re gonna love it!

J Rawls – The Hip-Hop Affect

This album’s features reads like a Hip Hop class reunion! The list of emcees is too numerous to mention, but it also includes production from Rhettmatic! Rawls’ production really shines on this album and you can hear the growth in his lyrics as he talks about real life from the Rawkus
days to being married w/children.
The best story though goes to an MC who is one of the brightest stars in Hip Hop right now, Senor Kaos. His rhyme will have you laughing and cringing all at the same time. Peep Kaos gettin ‘his Slick Rick on and get The Hip-Hop Affect HERE

SLik d – High Vibes

As it gets warmer outside and you begin to wear less clothes, you realize you need a new soundtrack, something that feels as bright as it looks outside and reflects the fun you know is ultimately coming your way. You realize that what you need is SLik d’s High Vibes…literally and figuratively. It’s only fitting that he has a song titled On the Pharcyde because his vibe definitely puts me in the mind of one of my earliest favorite Hip Hop groups. Get it HERE

If you’re a fan of jazzy Hip Hop like we are, and you’re feeling the effects of the recession ST/MiC’s In the Pocketis for you! First of all, this is FREE so don’t delay in downloading this. NOW for the most interesting thing about this project that sounds like your grandfather’s jazz crates got raided, it was all created using only the BeatMaker app by Intua and the Noise.io synthesizer, all on an iPod Touch. Impressive and you can’t tell the difference. Get it HERE

David Dallas – The Rose Tint

New Zealand really is making some great music right now! MC/New Zealander/NY transplant/recent Duck Down signee, David Dallas’ free album The Rose Tint is more proof of that. But not only are the beats nice and David’s flow smooth, he says,
“A lot of people criticise rap for being braggadocios but when I was a kid music I liked to listen to was music that was empowering and makes you feel cool, as opposed to music to slit your wrists to.” Agreed. Enjoy and D/L HERE

blu – 4U

First of all, I thought we were waiting blu’s No York. Secondly, although it is admittedly enticing to see production by alchemist, madlib, hezekiah, knxwledge, 9th wonder and blu on this project, it feels and sounds weirdly rushed. Usually, if we don’t like it, we don’t post it on BLS, but we have to speak out about sub par product at some point, especially artists that the people really believe in. blu has received a cult standing in the underground right now, and we shouldn’t have to accept below standard product. Check it out HERE…if you wish

Ta-Ku – KT

Not since the elder statesman of jazz music have I been so moved by mere instrumentals. Inspired by his muse, Katie, Ta-ku will unleash 4 cinematic beats via his first proper EP on the Darker Than Wax label very soon. The Red Bull Academy participant drops some funk so nasty on Little India, it will make Dam Funk blush…and that’s just 1/4 of the EP. Keep your browser at BLS for more info on this upcoming release
