Nearly 20 years after Pete Rock & CL Smooth made their mark on hip-hop with the classic album Mecca and the Soul Brother, CL Smooth has recorded two new vocal versions over Mr. Chop’s psychedelic covers of the original Pete Rock beats.
Last year, Mr. Chop released For Pete’s Sake, an album made up entirely of psych, funk, jazz and rock covers of Pete Rock’s greatest beats. The backing tracks for the new versions with CL Smooth’s are different than those on the Pete’s Sake album, and feature The Heliocentrics’ Malcolm Catto on drums. Get the 7″s HERE
