Malice & Mario Sweet – Happy2Year: Deluxe Edition

Chaka B introduced me to Seattle’s Malice & Mario Sweet earlier this year and I dug a good bit of the tracks from the first issue of their Happy2Year EP, which they created to help celebrate the two-year anniversary of their martial bliss.

Fast forward 9 months later and we get a re-issue of this decent project with some added tweaks in the form of remixes by some noted producers like BLS fave Tall Black Guy and newcomer (at least to me) DJ blesOne.

Though I would have liked to see someone else take a stab at revamping one of my fave tracks, “Speed Of Light“, the standout here for me would have to be the reinstatement of

Compared to the original, the added hand claps, updated bassline and TBG’s replacing the continuous horns for guitars and then bringing a different brass instrument in at the very ending, give this jam an understated yet edgy thump that just wasn’t there before. You’d think with all those added goodies it would detract from the “Simple Two-Step” vibe the first version had.

No fear. It didn’t.

This is a good project to get acquainted with the Sweet’s on if you missed it the first go around so don’t hesitate to cop the entire re-issued EP over HERE.
