If I were ever asked who was on my short list of producers on the very cusp of innovative audio craftsmanship these days, Oddisee would assuredly be in the mix. I’ve been an avid listener and staunch proponent since his Halftooth Records days and remain so.
His aural landscapes continually have a way of placing one foot in the fringes while the other instep remains firmly planted in the realm of FONK. Take “Al Mawrada” bonus cut from his latest release, Odd Seasons, for a spot on example.

I’ve had it on repeat all day. I even made up an excuse to get in the car this evening and drive around blasting it. Loudly. Something about how the flute dances around the edges of a rhythm that Richard Roundtree would give his left bellbottom for. Its just that #fonkay.
