While browsing YouTube, I got hipped to Nigerian-American songstress Janelia‘s music a while back on a random search for international soul. Then life happened and I dropped the ball on passing the goodness of this track on to the people.
The understated sensuality of the video’s treatment is engaging and lacks a great deal of the pretentiousness that some of today’s larger hits have, making it all the more refreshing.
Plus, did I already mention I really dig music that I don’t inherently know all the words to? Though the Yoruba in this is mostly within the hook and bridge, it still gives you more of a chance to feel the overall world vibe of the music, rather than get all caught up in wording and context.
