Booker T. Jones – The Vamp

Ironically, legendary soul man and organ player Booker T Jones’ first album in decades, The Road From Memphis is released as Memphis is under watch due to massive flooding. To say that the album is less than stellar is an understatement, and who wants to hear the man behind everlastingly funky treats like Green Onions play Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy or Lauryn’s Everything is Everything? That’s really besides the point, ultimately it feels like Booker is cutting back instead of cutting loose on this album; one of the only times you catch a glimpse of some chops is on The Vamp. Maybe he needs to catch the road to Memphis…once the water clears of course
