Shouts out to Tope for turning me on to Chicago/Portland emcee Vinnie Dewayne. His latest release, St. Johns Scholar, a shout out to earning his Bachelor of Arts degree, is full of solemn tales of Portlandia. However, the standout for me is Tomorrow, the mixtape’s rare bright spot with a soundbed transported from the 90’s Neo Soul era. For some reason I keep thinking Adriana Evans is going to emerge and take over the chorus on this beautiful, hopeful jewel.
