After being enshrouded (literally) in mystery during the group’s infancy, frontman Ishmael Butler aka Butterfly from Digable Planets unleashes his latest group with partner, percussionist Tendai Maraire, Shabazz Palaces’ latest offering Black Up. If you thought Cherrywine was a far departure from Digable Planets, then brace yourself for Shabazz Palaces IDM sensibilities. The chorus on one of the more accessible tracks on the album, Recollections of the Wraith really reveals how you should approach this album:
“Clear some space out, so we can space out!”
