Poliça – Lay Your Cards Out feat. Mike Noyce [Video]

Admittedly, every so often I color outside of the lines and take a chance on a song or album that normally wouldn’t be on my radar.

Last time I did that, I was introduced to Princeton’s “Florida” which ended up in the LJ‘s a few weeks back and also in my summer playlist. This time around, I’ve found another little gem from a Lake Minnetonka group, named Poliça.

Releasing their debut LP almost eight months before actually appearing for a live performance anywhere has added to their mystique and gotten them name drops from the likes of Justin Vernon to being blogged by Hova himself and with good reason too, as tracks like “Lay Your Cards Out” boast a sound at times similar to Portishead or maybe even Purity Ring.

Channy Leaneagh, Poliça’s lead, has stunning vocals that impressively stay buoyant above all the uber heavy drum patterns, Moog-ed out violin and fluid bass-line that Gayngs producer Ryan Olson meticulously crafts, plus the drum solo at the end has to be one of the most complex I’ve heard since Questlove murked his skins the end of “You Got Me“.

Poliça’s (“poe-lisa”) debut, “Give You The Ghost” is available HERE or over HERE.
