The coupling of Eric Lau and Georgia Anne Muldrow is a match made in heaven as witnessed on the 2011 Eric Lau & Dudley Perkins – Yet & Still (Ft. Georgia Anne Muldrow & Rahel), this workout seems to sing more sweetly though in my opinion. If you are familiar with the vocal talents of Georgia and her associations with the likes of Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper, Mos Def, Bilal, Wajeed, Sa-Ra etc you will certainly feel this. Eric Lau allows Georgia to really flex her soulstress self. Lau keeps it smooth with a slightly wonky beat feel to it with those dragging drums and quirky rhodes, and Muldrow goes for a wonderful vocal workout and this combination creates a sophisticated Neo soul turnout. Taken from “One of Many” by Eric Lau, which is out now.

When you press play, you’ll first wonder if this is a parody of The Pharcyde’s classic Runnin’. Around the 1:20 mark, as the familiar harmonizing comes in, you’ll realize that BJ Smith (Smith and Mudd) are dead serious and this is a wonderful folk interpretation, a firm and fine testament to the malleability of great music. I mentioned on Twitter last week that I was really enjoying BBR’s latest release Super Nova Samba Funk, and don’t know why I’m just posting about it. Pioneers on the Brazilian scene in the 70s and 80s, they’ve been revived by the deceased band member Oberdan Magalhaes’ son William as a jazz funk outfit w/Brazilian leanings. The album sounds especially good this Sunday with a vibe that’s very conducive to enjoying the vibe of a lazy day. Although introduced into the modern attention via Mos Def’s usage of their Casa Forte for his Casa Bey, their Hip Hop assisted tracks leave much to be desired, otherwise it’s a great listen and includes appearances by Seu Jorge and Gilberto Gil amongst
We put you on to Dru Carter HERE, but now find out more about his crew. Lost and Found was created while the 3 young men, Artistik, K-Ro, and Dru Carter pursued degrees at the HBCU Miles College. Dedicated to providing positive and lyrical music that captures the ears of real hip hop/jazz heads, I’m sure you’re going to love their self titled FreeP. The three man crew will draw many comparisons, I’m sure, but you’ll hear that these cats are also bringing something new to the table as well. Cop the EP HERE and peep Dru’s remix of the Dilla produced Mos Def/Kweli collaboration History HERE
