Banda Black Rio – Super Nova Samba Funk

I mentioned on Twitter last week that I was really enjoying BBR’s latest release Super Nova Samba Funk, and don’t know why I’m just posting about it. Pioneers on the Brazilian scene in the 70s and 80s, they’ve been revived by the deceased band member Oberdan Magalhaes’ son William as a jazz funk outfit w/Brazilian leanings. The album sounds especially good this Sunday with a vibe that’s very conducive to enjoying the vibe of a lazy day. Although introduced into the modern attention via Mos Def’s usage of their Casa Forte for his Casa Bey, their Hip Hop assisted tracks leave much to be desired, otherwise it’s a great listen and includes appearances by Seu Jorge and Gilberto Gil amongst others.
