Luckily, I check out the ?uestlove Supreme podcast otherwise I woulda never found out this album was released. I’ve heard Questlove discuss dropping a Jazz album on (Steve Mandel AKA Suga Steve’s label) JMI Recordings and located Plumb after listening to the latest episode. Plumb, not Plum, is an album composed and performed by David Murray, Questlove & Ray Angry released as a 4 LP boxset that you can preorder HERE & listen to HERE.
I’ll be honest, I’m not familiar with pianist Ray Angry, although I love his name. I’m familiar with saxophonist David Murray, and of course we all know Quest, and this project is as adventurous as you would imagine a Questlove associated Jazz project would be. Songs range from less than 5 minutes to a mind-blowing 16 minutes & 47 seconds. Intro To Ninno / Ninno lands at 13minutes and is, at present, my favorite tune in the boxset although I am still absorbing this project.
Pony up $150 and expect to receive this Jan 2024, and be on the lookout for Peach, also to be released on JMI. Peach will be anchored by ?uest featuring Bilal, Ray Angry and Doyle Bramhall II.
