Bilal – Flying [Muhsinah Remix_Rough]

Two things I can admit to be being completely wrong about.

1) That there would be anything else to tell about Muhsinah for a few days.

2) I’m spending more than enough time on the Twittah.

Almost a month ago, I happened to be stalking Muhsinah‘s timeline and saw an exchange between her and @TeamBilal that if her follower count reached 9000, she’d loosen her grip on this remix she did for one of my favorite tracks from Bilal’s magnum opus, “Airtight’s Revenge“.

Well, for some reason laziness, I neglected to keep checking in on her account and then BOOM! I come across it, slowly drifting around on the interwebs.

While most would agree that Muhsinah’s production is very minimalistic here in regards to what she normally does for herself, stripping the original Nottz production to almost bare bones and then replacing it with understated piano chords, xylophone chimes and eerie angelic vocals during the hook does give Mr. Oliver’s tragic story-line a decidedly more cinematic feel. Every line of the song is now completely accessible, every one of Bilal’s inflections unabashed and a few lines that before were difficult to decipher have now been audibly transcribed and give a tad more depth to the tale he weaves.

Plus Airtight himself called it dope, so there yah go.

#sidenote: As many times as I’ve listened to the original, I still can’t tell if this song is about tragic circumstances that struck two different women or the extra hard hand of cards dealt to just one? Thoughts?
