Big K.R.I.T – Red Eye [Download]

Though I’d heard a couple of Big K.R.I.T.‘s offerings from his previous releases and I appreciated his penchant for jazzy, soulful production as well as his ability to explore a plethora of genuine emotions with a hard edged southern candor, I can’t honestly say I was on pins and needles waiting for his latest project to emerge.

But like most K.R.I.T. fans, once the project dropped on the 5th, I took the opportunity to give “4Eva N A Day” a good listen before his Def Jam debut arrives in a few months. Most of what I heard was reminiscent of themes he previously explored on his May 2010 project “K.R.I.T. Wuz Here” or the March 2011 follow up “Return of 4eva“, yet there still remained a conscious and consistent underlying thread of originality being delivered throughout.

That original thinking, emotion and delivery shines through on “Red Eye“.

Even if you have never attempted to maintain a positive, growing, healthy and monogamous relationship while desperately trying to obtain your dream of being a popular and above that, working music artist, it’s utterly impossible to not hear the indecisiveness and regret in his voice coupled with the tinges of gritty realism and finality. Plus he gets double props for being able to express it in a cohesive manner.

If you can’t get all that from just listening to the track itself, this will do wonders for your comprehension level, or lack there of.
