Debra Debs – Fizzy Lemonade [Stream]

Debra Debs

With all the hustle and flow of glad tidings, good food and actually getting to relax around the holidays, I didn’t get the opportunity to lace any shoes about a gem I found while perusing Bandcamp.

Meet Debra Debs, a Cameroon-born, UK based, SoulfullyAfroRNBJazzyThingy songstress and that crazy word-jumble accurately describes the soulful compositions on her recently released LP, LifeCycles, as they have a balance of showcasing her own style while easily being likened to her long list of influences, namely Jill Scott, Ella Fitzgerald and even a touch of Floetry shining through.

Take the standout jazzy groove of Fizzy Lemonade, where Debra spins a small tale of a relaxing evening over coffee that rapidly turns romantic, as a stellar illustration.

With writing that employs scented candles and racing heartbeats, Debs likens her love to the tranquility found at the bottom of a dense glass of Cranberry Shiraz, then juxtaposes that sensory with equating the object of her affections to the effervescence of carbonated Lemonade; or what we in the States would probably closest deem as a can of Sprite, but sans the lime and add a touch more Lemon to make it closer to what they drink in the UK though.

Regardless of how you drink it down, the result is just as she intended, bubbly with just a hint of citrus twang for auditory refreshment. Grab her entire LP HERE to get into the rest of her vibe.
