BamaLoveSoul Presents One Sunday in Spring (Podcast)

I was asked to put together a mix for a gathering this weekend and decided to share. They wanted Boney James-esque jazz. I don’t own any Boney James, but put together some tunes I could stomach that I felt fit that aesthetic. Some cuts, like the Anthony Valadez may not be traditionally considered jazz, but it went with the overall mood I was attempting to create. To be completely honest, I was surprised I have as many of these tunes as I do. Depending on the response, I may do more. Check it out and let us know what you think

Philadelphia Experiment – Grover
Anthony Valadez – Drips of Sound
Jeff Bradshaw – Can You Come Over feat Carol Riddick
Robert Glasper – FTB
The RH Factor – HardGroove
DJ Mitsu the Beats – Masquerade
Soulive – Liquid
Hidden Beach – Electric Relaxation ft Jeff Lorber
Ronny Jordan – Mystic Voyage feat Roy Ayers
Darryl Reeves – Star of Detroit
Victor Wooten – The Lesson
Gretchen Parlato – All That I can Say
Mike Phillips – Tonite
Michael “Patches” Stewart – Penetration (El Nino)
Down to the Bone – Memphis Groove

You not a big fan of smooth jazz or music fitting that genre?

  • not necessarily. it all depends of course…i’ve just had some really bad experiences with poor sounding smooth jazz records and it’s been hard for me to give it another chance

These jawns all fit a nice head-nod flow, background ambiance, gathering type setting. And Roy Hargrove stepped out of his comfort zone to produce RH Factor so good choice – – keep doing what you do – – I enjoy the mixes, the sites, etc!
