The Foreign Exchange – Authenticity (Video)

The Foreign Exchange (Phonte and Nicolay) creates music for the people, rather than the masses. From their subtle, electro-infused R&B vibe to their modest visual accompaniments, their material evokes a down-to-earth sensibility that’s unique and approachable. Below is the music video for the title track of their heralded, most recent album—Authenticity.

I’m much more inclined to hip hop, so when I first pressed play on this record I was somewhat aloof. I remember thinking aloud, “Phonte’s singing again?” The same had occurred when I first listened to their grammy-nominated sophomore album, Leave It All Behind. Since they broke onto the scene with the hip-hop oriented Connected, I wanted to hear more of Phonte’s candid rhymes over Nicolay’s immersive production. But just as with LIAB, the more I’ve listened, the more my ears have found and the fonder I’ve become of this wonderful LP.
