Released 4 years before my birth, The Ojays’ For the Love of Money was still a mainstay on the radio during my childhood. Philadelphia International was running the airwaves in my hometown, and the local station kept this funky jam in constant rotation which made a huge impression on me. This morning I woke up and saw white-hot Cali producer, Stro placed his thumbprint on the classic and was compelled to press play. If Levert & Troop’s 1991 collaborative New Jack City remake was considered for my generation, this is the new, improved version for the next generation. The funk remains, with a bouncy groove and swirling keys that will make anyone’s head nod. Enjoy!
