Since it released close to the end of June, I’ve been rotating tracks from Rapsody‘s latest effort and the music contained within keeps adding fuel to a statement I’ve said to more than one person for the last seven years. #stopsleepingoncarolina
Hailing from NC, the Jamla Records artist has been putting in work for a good while being featured on many a track, a portion of which ended up on her last offering Return of the B-Girl, I’d classify this as a solo piece of work since she handles lyric duties on roughly half of the set.
And handle her own she does, spitting effortless and even personal over production from The Soul Council, Vitamin D, Nottz and of course her mentor 9th Wonder.
I could expound about many of the cuts on this offering, from the Raekwon assisted Black Diamonds to the Eric G produced “Lampin” but the gem track for me has to be Blankin’ Out [Remix] feat. Jean Grae
Yes it’s a remix of the original featuring Mac Miller but to Rapsody‘s credit, anyone (male or female) that can allow JeanGreasy to lay fresh vocals and not have those old verses get out shined gets a pass from me.
