I dig Latin music. I mean really dig it. Salsa, Meringue and now Boogaloo. So whenever Fania Records releases a cut or two from the vaults for the free, best believe I’m all over it. This time around to spread the word about the release of this rarity from Joey Pastrana, they’ve commissioned the freeness via his little known Boogaloo hit on the Cotique Records label, “That’s How Rumors Start“.
Originally written by Joey with the star power of his label mate Johnny Colón in mind, Johnny unwittingly turned the track down. Joey then followed the advice of his producer, George Goldner and recorded his writings himself. Enlisting the help of Colón’s former band mates, Tony & Tito, Joey turned what could have been another notch on Johnny’s belt into a winner for himself.
