40 years ago on the evening of August 26th, the Fania imprint, well known for pioneering and championing Latin culture in music, gathered all of it’s All-Stars onstage at the legendary Cheetah Club in New York to single-handedly unleash the musical phenomenon known as the Salsa Explosion of the ’70s. The show was recorded for posterity and released as the two LP set “Live At The Cheetah“.
Featuring some of the genre’s greatest stars such as Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon, Hector Cruz and

Fania co-founder Jerry Masucci eschewed the use Lo-Fi recording equipment and instead opted for movie cameras. His vision leveraged the concert from a mere recording into a more polished feature length documentary of the burgeoning salsa movement. The result has been something of a collector’s item during the past decades and now Fania has remastered a DVD edition of the movie as well as two CD’s containing the soundtrack plus additional bonus tracks, re-titling it “Our Latin Thing” and making this a true collector’s item.
