Here’s a new one from our dope Netherlands connect, Highest5, a crew of producers that’s releasing some real heat right now. Just check out Enves’ release Light Sky, a cool number which takes you on an almost 3 minute headnod journey. Most producers nowadays don’t either have the skill or desire to crate something like this and the sound is much appreciated. Shade Cobain is a producer that we’ve been following for some time now and we’ve been fortunate enough to see some real growth in his work (link). Cassette Theory was my favorite but this one has quickly taken it’s place as Shade creates some really nice beats from a gang of sources. There is also a predominant Ummah-era feel on this release that takes you back to a time when you could really relax and enjoy Hip Hop. Settle down class, and let Prof. Cobain begin his lecture. You will leave most enlightened!
Cro-magnon’s latest release, simply titled joints (purchase) has something for everyone! It’s got spoken word, hip hop, joints to dance to and joints to lounge out to, the latter being some of my favorites. The Japanese trio has a way of bringing an authentic rare groove vibe to their cuts that make you wish you were playing it on vinyl vs your mp3 player. joints has some really great features: Roy Ayers, Steve Spacek and gagle ,to name a few, and is worth every cent you spend on this import!
I only know of a handful of tracks that Nas and Kanye collaborated on but never gave it much thought on how they would sound working together on an album. DJ Lennox gives you a slight peek into how that would sound. 24 great blends and excellent tunes make this a sure shot for your Friday cubicle bumpin’
