TV One’s Unsung doc on the Ohio Players airs tonight and I’m supergeeked about this. I’ve read some interviews post-breakup of the Players’ but it will be interesting to see/hear from their mouths what caused the end of a truly influential group. The aftermath of the group’s demise launched a few solo album releases, but none of which were highly commercially successful. In 1985, lead singer SugarFoot linked up with the Roger Troutman to produce his Sugar Kiss album. This led to Larry and Zapp playing on the album, and a disappointing remix of the Players’ classic Fire.
I’ve said it once before and I’ll say it again, Freddie Joachim is a hard working producer! He’s not stopping because it’s getting warm outside either, just check out his remix of Toro yMoi’s Freak Love and his own Wasted.
