Femi channels his father, which is not to say that he sounds like Fela, but that the spirit of Fela’s authenticity is present. Urgency is the musical message throughout the varying tempo changes and the tight musicianship of No Place for My Dream (tip: strap in before you play “Wey Our Money”), and the recurring theme of social and economic stratification can be applied far beyond Nigeria’s borders.

If you are familiar with the vocal talents of Georgia and her associations with the likes of Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper, Mos Def, Bilal, Wajeed, Sa-Ra etc you will certainly feel this. Eric Lau allows Georgia to really flex her soulstress self. Lau keeps it smooth with a slightly wonky beat feel to it with those dragging drums and quirky rhodes, and Muldrow goes for a wonderful vocal workout and this combination creates a sophisticated Neo soul turnout.
