Amy Winehouse – Halftime

I can’t lie and say that I like each and every song on this postmortem LP but Amy’s voice sounds full of reverberating silk on the lion’s share of these tracks.

It’s certainly refreshing and enlightening to hear her take on standards like The ShirellesWill You Still Love Me Tomorrow” or Pery Ribeiro‘s “The Girl From Ipanema” and sans her rendition of Leon Russell‘s timeless “A Song For You“, this collection could easily be in my rotation for a good while.

Especially when I know that it houses this gem.

Showcasing a touch of jazz and a smattering of blues to accompany the soul in her contralto, the track sounds so fresh that it’s quite hard to believe it was recorded nine years ago during sessions with Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi for her debut LP, Frank.

Doubly harder to fathom that it didn’t make the track list for the final pressing or even on the Deluxe Edition. #cestlavie

This track quite possibly might almost take the place of my other fave Amy song, “Tears Dry On Their Own“. Almost being the operative word.
