As the days roll along towards warmer mornings, scorching mid-days and sweltering nights, I begin subconsciously compiling solstice sounds to get me through the season. A single or two here, a mix or three there. I’ve already got Vacationer and their infectious #NUHULA cued up but one album just won’t do. Like any other #musichead, I simply need MOAR!
So with “Surf & Sun” in mind and plugged into Bandcamp’s search field, I came stumbling across Aloha Got Soul and their supremely soulful mixes. Full of completely Hawaiian Funk, Jazz and Soulful rarities, the mix loosely based on DJ Muro‘s fantastic “Hawaiian Breaks” mixtape from back in 2009, should serve as a revisit of old favorites for some and an introduction to the depth of homegrown rare grooves the islands have offered over the decades for most.
