Vinyl? Check! #36: Archie Bell – I Never Made Love

This is the only solo album released by the former frontman of Archie Bell and the Drells. The album was released, one year after the group split, in 1981. Surprisingly it wasn’t released on Philadelphia International where the group thrived, but on Becket Records. Denroy Morgan released Ill Do Anything For You on Becket that same year. Although released in 1981, Drell’s album doesn’t succumb to the electronic instrumentation of that time, although some songs have a slight disco edge. I Never Made Love is a sexy, slow feeling uptempo gem on this album that’s great to get a house set started with. This is just one great track on an album with many soulful treats such as Harder and Harder.
