SampleWorthy 001: Fleet Foxes

What makes a song or album SampleWorthy?

That’s a very good question. To sum it up, we dig into A LOT of music around BLS, a good majority of which ends up between our headers for you to enjoy but every so often we stumble across music that we normally wouldn’t listen to. I mean, how else does an Audiophile get exposed to new favorites? You sometimes have to take a chance on not liking a new find in order to discover if it has any replay value at all. That’s it in a nutshell. If you never click play, then your tastes won’t expand.

So in order for a song or album to be SampleWorthy, there has to be something within the track that just stands out. It could be a guitar lick or a bass line that sounds perfect to make a loop of or a sung vocal or spoken word that would be excellent for a hook or chorus. It also helps if the music has never been (at least from our research) sampled before.

The track above is from the Seattle Indie band Fleet Foxes and while another one of their songs has been sampled recently, this gem remains surprisingly untouched and I can’t imagine why, when all it would take is for a talented individual or production group to freak it the right way.
