Herb Alpert – Got A Lot Of Livin’ To Do

My musical taste has changed over the years, in fact, it has evolved. I grew up listening to soul, soca, and reggae alone, as that was the music playing in my parents house. Eventually my ears opened up to HipHop in my teenage years. After joining the military jazz became a major staple in my musical tastes, starting with the legendary Art Porter, which lead me to Herb Alpert. As my uncle used to say when he was alive, “Herb Alpert was Boney James before Boney James was Boney James,” and although I love both artists, I must say Mr. Alpert’s latest offering is not only smooth but hypnotic. Every song on the album is either a cover or an original offering, and every one of them a certified classic, but the one that stood out to me was “Got a Lot of Living to Do.” Alpert trances you with a beautiful piano riff, hits you with the samba, and finally Herb Alpert’s trumpet pulls you into the groove, proving exactly why he is an icon.
