Peebs The Prophet – Dead Calm

My introduction to Portland emcee, Peebs the Prophet is his recent release, Ills of the Earth. Quite fittingly the intro track, Dead Calm is what hooked me on to continue listening. Peebs represents the 90’s HipHop aesthetic throughout the EP, accented by production from Phoniks and BluntOne. Hell, even his name sounds like a name you would read in the Unsigned Hype column during the height of The Source Magazine. If you miss the days of carefully selected soul samples, and precise cuts then Ills of the Earth is for you. Pickup the limited edition vinyl to get the slick instrumentals
