Meshell Ndegeocello – Comet, Come To Me (Album Review)

Meshell Ndegéocello hits us with her new album, Comet, Come to Me. Ms. Ndegeocello’s vocal prowess is something familiar to many and this project is no exception. It offers up a few different approaches and styles for listeners to feast on. You can catch some garage rock influences as well as soul, funk, and trip hop. Hands down the ska and dub centered Forget My Name is my absolute favorite track. The song features heavy horns and a vibe out reggae beat, reminiscent of Prince Fatty or Scratch Perry. I can’t say I was supee geeked while listening to the album. It is very downtempo throughout and I would say it would be best suited to a quiet night in. As individual songs I can appreciate each one’s own quality and unique flavor but as a whole project I feel it lacked cohesiveness. Find out for yourself and check out the album.
