Lizbet Sempa – On These Hills + Mistakes

One of the great things about the virtual treasure trove of music that gets uploaded to SoundCloud on the daily by artists from everywhere imaginable, is stumbling across the unfamiliar but instantly likeable.

Which happened to me a few days back when I clicked play on this songwriting, piano playing newcomer hailing from London. Elizabeth “Lizbet” Sempa‘s honestly moody vocals and equally haunting prowess on the ivories, captivated me for the full 4:06 of the clip.

Something about the melancholy and longing in her striking profile as she finishes the song and stares pensively out the window resonated with me on a heartbroken, awkward black girl level and prompted me to listen to another original piece on her SC page:

Needless to say, I’m strangely enamored and will probably be moody myself until her “Indirect Thoughts” EP is finalized and available. Join me won’t you? After all, misery loves company.
