Netherlands based producer Kratos Himself has enjoyed a studious 2013. This year alone he has provided remixes for Deon Custom, IET and contributed to the Mooncircle project as well as the Mellow Yellow Taxi ride compilation. In the pipeline is collaborative work with Jese Futureman. If all of the above was not enough to warrant the rest of the year off Kratos Presents A Town Called Imaginarium.
The 7 track EP is an eclectic journey across continents. Opening track, Imaginarium is downtempo with a intermittent military drum roll. This track manages to set the theme which runs throughout the project. Vastness.
The EP gathers pace over the next two tracks. Remember is a flashback to pre dub step Amon Tobin material, whilst Ayahuasca has the feel of a pursuit underpinned with an eirrie distant choir. Ayahuasca has a heavy milddle eastern influence infused with chemical drums. However the track that will have listeners reaching for repeat on a lazy summers evening is Lucid. This contemporary jazz like composition combines orchestral strings trumpet and break beats perfectly. Till we meet again brings about an atmospheric end to the EP. The rhythm of the track is provided by a slowed down heart beat strings and guitar.
As with Air, Bonobo, and the late Terry Callier before him, Kratos creates muisc which evokes a feeling of an epic voyage will be embarked upon every time the listener presses play.
