Unless you have been sleeping under a rock, by now you should have heard this group’s songs on “Dear White People” movie and soundtrack. If you have Amazon Prime, you have definitely heard their song “Can’t Let Go” and its funky horns as the theme song for the series, BOSCH, which actually sold me on them. I must admit I only knew who they were just because of those two mentions but I have seen their lead singer, Tessa Thompson, on various shows/movies throughout the years through her works as an actress. Her partner, Producer Jesse Nolan is no slouch either, as his voice is what makes this saccharine Madonna cover into a revelation. Putting his own flavor to this pristine sounding rendition, he makes this song sound as smooth as Smokey Robinson would have – one would even believe this was recorded at Chess Records. Definitely worth a listen.
