Vinyl? Check! 51: Sunday Meditation
Posted on May 22, 2011 | No CommentsAfter reading the latest issue of Wax Poetics, I went and checked out some of the albums by the artists. I’ve had You Are My Starship for a long time, but this song just touched me on this listen. The Creator Has a Master Plan (Peace), arranged by Norman Connors, features Gary Bartz and Pharoah Sanders and is a truly great, jazzy tune to reflect and meditate to. There aren’t many songs being created like this anymore. Enjoy! -
Late Pass #15: Cherrywine – 16th Minute/In Here feat Nia Long

Late Pass #60: Bilal – Soul Sista (Madlib Remix)
Posted on April 26, 2011 | 2 CommentsAs you can probably tell, I've been going through my old crates tonight. Here's a treat from a rare and hard to find 12" Madlib put together when he was really putting out a lot of remixes. He completely fonked this one out and adds that trademark Madlib feel to it, all while still keeping it surprisingly sexy. Just a great gem to pop in the deck. Enjoy! -
Late Pass #59: Elzhi – Feel This (This Here) feat Dwele
Posted on April 26, 2011 | 1 CommentHere’s another one I found while listening to an old mix of mine. This comes from an album I’ve had since 2004 titled only Unreleased Solo Project. This Hereis a cool marriage between the track’s soothing guitar, Elzhi’s subtle flow and Dwele’s crooning. This tune is so dope I dont know how I forgot about it. Don’t forget about Elzhi’s elMatic which is dropping soon (read more HERE) and did you ever hear of The Breakfast Club (Dwele x Ta’Raach x Elzhi)? -
Late Pass#58 : Emage – Stop The Pain
Posted on April 26, 2011 | No CommentsHere's a cool joint from 1994, yep almost 20 years ago. This one-off was produced largely by Tony Toni Tone's Dwayne Wiggins but also featured production by Showbiz, Dres, Mista Lawnge, and Howie Tee. The album sounds a little dated now but I've always loved this Les McCann sample and the way they flipped it. This one is still out there and can be scored for as little as $1.96 HERE -

Late Pass #55: Camp Lo – Luchini (This Is It) (Destruments Remix)

Late Pass #54: Peven Everett – The One I Want
Posted on March 29, 2011 | 1 CommentThis was the first track on his My Brazil CD (2003) and found the usually souled out or housed up Peven in a bossa mode. This 5 track EP was described as a “session that has Peven singing gently and soulfully, with mostly just acoustic guitar and percussion to back him up. The sound is incredible – kind of a cross between Joao Gilberto and D’Angelo – with a mellow, laidback style that’s immediately infectious
