Hailing from the City of Wind and closely affiliated with the SAVE MONEY collective, Kami de Chukwu can certainly never be called unoriginal, in either his name or especially in his music.
What’s very original music-wise, is his choice of production on his newest set titled “LIGHT“, as he opts to use a diverse set of instrumentals from certain buzzworthy beatsmiths (that I’ve not heard someone rhyme over until now) such as XXYYXX, Jonwayne and Groundislava to name a few, as well as familiar names like Samiyam and Hudson Mohawke.
While the production of the chosen tracks themselves is located well on the outer fringes, save for “Mimosa Hostilis” where he tackles the superb loop of J. Dilla’s “Phantom of the Synths“, Kami is very much at ease with flipping verbals across these soundscapes and quite adept at finding rhyme worthy melodies within them that lesser ears would certainly consider a daunting task.
